Description

In the 1960s, Reinier Lucassen was, together with the painters Roger Raveel and Alphons Freymuth, one of the most important representatives of the so-called New Figuration. In his work, he seeks a synthesis between figuration and abstraction, between ratio and an emotional expressionist way of painting. In this, the emotional content of a work is of essential importance to him. From the 1980s onwards, Lucassen develops a completely abstract formal language. The formats of his paintings become smaller, the colours sober. Typical of the painter is that he integrates letters and numbers in his paintings and sometimes gives them poetic or enigmatic titles.
