Description

Gijs van Lith (1984) is a Dutch artist, mainly active as a painter, but his oeuvre also includes sculptures and installations. He studied at the art academy AKV St. Joost in 's-Hertogenbosch, where he obtained both his bachelor's and master's degrees.

In his work, the creative process is central, with special attention to materiality and the physical act of painting. Van Lith plays with the expectations of what a painting can or should be, often involving the front and back of the canvas in his work.

His work has received national and international recognition and is included in various private and corporate collections. In 2009 he won the Thieme Art Young Talent Award. Major exhibitions include his solo exhibition at the Kunsthal Rotterdam in 2018 and a duo exhibition with Henk Visch at Het Noordbrabants Museum in 2020
