Willem Jan Pieter van der Does (20 April 1889 – 3 February 1966) was a Dutch painter, illustrator, draftsman and watercolourist, best known for his work in the Dutch East Indies. He was born in Rotterdam as the son of a sea captain. Van der Does studied at the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts and continued his education privately. Around 1918 he settled in the Dutch East Indies, where he travelled the country as a civil servant, visiting cities such as Surabaya, Batavia, Medan, Malang and Bandung. These travels served as inspiration for his artistic work.

In 1923–1924, van der Does was the first Dutchman to visit Antarctica. He made about 144 sketches that were later published in his book "Storm, Ice and Whales". During the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, he participated with the painting "Towards the Unknown", which was exhibited in the Kaiserdamm hall. He received a bronze participation medal for this.

Van der Does was also a teacher; one of his students was the Indonesian painter Koempoel Sujatno. His work was presented to European royalty, including King Leopold III of Belgium and Queen Astrid of Sweden. On the fiftieth birthday of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, the government of the Dutch East Indies presented one of his works to her. His illustrations graced books such as the Dutch translation of "Two Years Before the Mast" by Richard Henry Dana Jr. After World War II, he returned to the Netherlands and continued to paint, particularly scenes depicting daily life in the Dutch East Indies. He died in 1966 in Zeist.
