This special painting by Floris Verster shows a white Delft vase with red and pink tulips, a beautiful example of his refined still lifes. The work is beautifully framed in a high-quality frame by Heijdenrijk, which gives the whole a stylish and classic look.
The painting is in good condition and has recently been professionally cleaned by Restauratoren Nederland, which allows the colours and details to fully come into their own again.
The work is included in the Floris Verster oeuvre catalogue under number 316, which contributes to the documentation and authenticity of this piece. It was originally purchased from Kunsthandel ML de Boer and has been privately owned ever since.
An exceptional work by one of the most important Dutch artists of his time.
In his early work, Verster was fascinated by the Hague School, which was then at the height of its fame. He frequently painted atmospheric landscapes around his hometown of Leiden. He also travelled to Bergen and Noorden to paint. Around 1885, he switched to painting still lifes of flowers and simple objects, contemplative in nature and with a strong symbolic charge. In this way, Verster joined the ranks of painters who no longer occupied themselves with the external forms of nature, but depicted them as inspired by an inner force.
