Iris Frederix is a Dutch painter, born in 1981 in Schimmert, South Limburg. She is known for her realistic paintings that combine classical techniques with contemporary themes.
Education and background
Frederix began her art education at the art academy in Maastricht and continued it at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, where she graduated in Autonomous Painting in 2004. She then obtained a teaching diploma in Visual Arts and Design from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences in 2006. Since 2010, she has been teaching painting, and since 2019 she has been a coach on the television program Project Rembrandt.
Style and theme
Her work is considered contemporary realism and is influenced by the Baroque and Renaissance periods, with influences from masters such as Rembrandt and Leonardo da Vinci. Frederix mainly paints portraits and female nudes, combining romance and psychological depth with a cinematic atmosphere. Her paintings are often large-scale and depict realistic representations of people and animals.
Exhibitions and commissions
Frederix has created both independent works and commissioned portraits. Her works have been exhibited in, among others, the Literature Museum, the Noordbrabants Museum and the Kröller-Müller Museum. She has painted portraits of well-known Dutch people such as Youp van 't Hek, Guus Hiddink and Frits Bolkestein.
