Description

Gerard Verdijk (1934–2005) was an influential Dutch artist, known for his abstract paintings, drawings and sculptures. He studied in Amsterdam, Antwerp and Paris, and developed his own style within the art informal. His work, which often made use of plaster, sand and textiles, was characterised by spontaneous paint treatments. Throughout his career, Verdijk was inspired by Eastern philosophies and his travels to various countries. His later work, from 1994 onwards, was characterised by minimalism and layered colour planes. His works can be found in various museums, including the Stedelijk Museum and the Dordrechts Museum.
